I came to Japan in 2000 to work as an English teacher whilst studying Japanese. In 2007 I passed the highest level of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test, the most widely recognized test of Japanese language ability.
After passing the test, I began working as an in-house Japanese-to-English translator, first at Tokyo National Museum and then at Mizuho Corporate Bank. As well as experience in translation, these positions also gave me a good grounding in art, culture, economics and finance.
At the end of 2009 I became a freelance translator. I continue to do work for Tokyo National Museum and Mizuho Corporate Bank in a freelance capacity, while my new clients include Asahi Shimbun, NHK and the Saitama Arts Foundation.
